MD_DA751 Casein - National Casein Report for U.S. Imports Report 13 - Released on March 26, 2020 Acid casein prices are higher. Rennet casein firmed at the bottom of the price range but remained steady at the top. There is growing concern among casein brokers and awareness by customers, that available supplies will be lower than desirable, especially for acid casein from New Zealand. This arises because New Zealand seasonal milk production expectations have been reduced during the season. Now there are also expectations that the season will end earlier than normal due to drought. Dairy producers are increasingly drying off cows early. The lower than expected milk production will almost certainly result in decreased production of casein, among other products. Casein stocks are already considered low. This has translated into higher prices, especially for acid casein. Buyers without contracts must go to brokers. Brokers are requiring these higher prices to make sales. While some buyers are resisting, more are accepting it to get what they need. This will likely continue. Casein markets are expected to remain firm.
