The FVIAC currently has three Subcommittees. These Subcommittees (also referred to as working groups) meet regularly between public meetings to develop recommendations and discussion documents for the full FVIAC’s consideration.
Food Safety, Consumption & Nutrition
- Put forth recommendations for consideration by the full Committee on fruit and vegetable issues regarding food safety, audit, inspections, and standardization.
- Put forth recommendations for consideration by the full Committee that aim to increase the overall consumption of fruits & vegetables in the United States; that pertain to USDA procurement services and nutrition initiatives; and that optimize the promotion of domestically produced fruits, vegetables, and specialty crops through grants and research, among other initiatives.
Labor, Production, Infrastructure & Sustainability
- Put forth recommendations for consideration by the full Committee on issues such as crop insurance; supporting the fruit & vegetable industry during natural disasters; creating more resilient food supply chains; and other matters related to labor and production issues, grants, and research.
- Put forth recommendations for consideration by the full Committee on how USDA policies, programs, grants, and research support the advancement of infrastructure and broadband investments, smart climate and energy initiatives, and diverse agricultural and food systems.
Data Reporting & Analysis
- Put forth recommendations for consideration by the full Committee on ways to enhance USDA reports (national, regional, and commodity-specific), information collection and data dissemination methods to assist in the marketing and distribution of farm commodities.
