The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) announced United States Grain Standards Act (USGSA) designation opportunities in the vicinity of Decatur, Indiana and Marshall, Michigan, and requests comment on the quality of services provided by Michigan Grain Inspection Services Inc. and two applicants requesting to provide USGSA services in the Texas Central designation area.
Designated agencies work under the supervision of USDA’s Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) and are authorized to provide official inspection and weighing services in a defined geographic area.
Instructions on how to apply for designation in the vicinity of Indiana and Michigan and comment on Michigan Grain Inspection Services Inc. were published in the Federal Register Nov. 15, 2023. Applications are due Dec. 15, 2023. AMS encourages submissions from traditionally underrepresented individuals, organizations, and businesses to reflect the diversity of the industry.
For the Texas Central area, applicants Plainview Grain Inspection and Weighing Service Inc. and Grain Inspection Services of Texas LLC are requesting to provide USGSA services. Plainview is currently a designated official agency and Texas Grain is a new business requesting designation. Plainview applied for designation to provide official services for part of the unassigned Texas Central area, specifically Coke, Coleman, Ector, Glasscock, Midland, Runnels, Sterling and Winkler counties. Texas Grain applied for the entire unassigned area.
