USDA Seeks Nominees for United Sorghum Checkoff Program Board

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) is seeking nominees for positions on the United Sorghum Checkoff Program Board to fill four vacancies including two producer positions for Kansas, one producer position for Oklahoma, and one producer position for Texas. The Secretary of Agriculture selects appointees from producers nominated by Certified Producer Organizations.

Any U.S. sorghum producer who owns or shares in the ownership and risk of loss of sorghum can be considered for nomination. All eligible producers are invited to seek nomination by May 3, 2019.

The list of Certified Producer Organizations and the nomination form are available on the United Sorghum Checkoff Program page on the AMS website.

The United Sorghum Checkoff Program Board is made up of 13 members and is authorized by the Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act of 1996. Since 1966, Congress has authorized 22 industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool their resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets and conduct important research and promotion activities. AMS provides oversight, paid for by industry assessments, which helps ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
