Release No.: 001-19
WASHINGTON, March 4, 2019--Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue today announced the appointment of Darrell Scott Johnson, San Francisco, Calif., to the Cotton Board with a term ending Dec. 31, 2020, to fill a vacant member seat.
The 2019 board is composed of 38 members and 38 alternate members, all of whom must be representatives of cotton producers and importers of cotton or cotton-containing products.
The Cotton Research and Promotion Act of 1966 authorized a national cotton research and promotion program that is both industry-operated and funded. Since 1966, Congress has authorized 22 industry-funded research and promotion boards to provide a framework for agricultural industries to pool their resources and combine efforts to develop new markets, strengthen existing markets and conduct important research and promotion activities. The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) provides oversight, paid for by industry assessments, which helps ensure fiscal accountability and program integrity.
