WASHINGTON, May 31, 2023 —Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the opening of the USDA Farmers Market for its 26th market season. The annual Friday market will open on Friday, June 2, 2023, and run through Friday, September 29, 2023.

“We are excited to welcome vendors and patrons back to the USDA Farmers Market to enjoy a sampling of foods and products from this diverse region,” said Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Jenny Lester Moffitt. “Each year the market offers us a chance to showcase how farmers markets can support local economies, increase marketing opportunities for farmers and small businesses, provide access to local and regional products, and be a fun place to gather.”

The USDA Farmers Market promotes the incorporation of healthy fresh produce and other vegetative products through its unique educational style program, VegU. The commodity centered education program will partner with USDA Research and Promotion Boards to market and promote the consumption of board commodities through short educational session and in-market recipe demonstrations.

USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has operated the USDA Farmers Market since the mid-1990s. AMS works to improve marketing opportunities for producers across the country through the combination of research, technical assistance, and grants. Each year, AMS helps hundreds of agricultural food businesses, including farmers markets, food hubs, wholesale markets, retailers, State agencies, community planning organizations, and other agri-food focused groups, enhance their local food marketing efforts.
