The Grand Traverse Band (GTB) Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement (LFPA) Plus Amendment proposes to expand the existing GTB LFPA grant to fund food purchasing through 2025 and increase the direct food expenditure budget for GTB by $100,000. The current GTB LFPA grant program has $110,400 in food expenditure directly made by GTB. So, this proposed LFPA Plus Amendment would see an increase of more in the food expenditures by GTB made compared to the current GTB LFPA grant program. In addition to the proposed LFPA PLUS purchases made by GTB, this LFPA PLUS amendment includes an additional $227,750 in local/regional food purchasing done by contractors funded under this proposal. This connection with local vendors and supporting Historically Disadvantaged Producers in the tribal community will support long term goals of tribal sovereignty by increasing the tribal community’s ability to provide food to those in need. The currently LFPA funding has allowed for GTB to connect with local producers of traditional foods. These foods include traditional squash, lake trout, corn, and bison.
