WASHINGTON, January 24, 2012 —The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has created a new online source of information for exporting shell eggs, authorized further processed eggs and egg products.

AMS recognizes the need for a central repository that provides country specific information on the import requirements for shell eggs or authorized further processed eggs and egg products for producers and marketers of eggs. The export library fully supports USDA’s trade priorities by assisting U.S. egg producers and marketers with the resources needed to reach consumers around the world.

The export library can be found at https://www.ams.usda.gov/sites/default/files/media/Shell%20Egg%20Export%20Restrictions.pdf

“The webpage provides access to easy-to-navigate sections of information concerning the export certification of eggs,” said Rex Barnes, deputy administrator of AMS Poultry Programs. AMS export documents provide public health and animal health certification that shell eggs meet the requirements of the importing country.

The Export Regulations and Policy section consists of regulations and policies that provide U.S. egg marketers with fundamental guidance for exporting eggs. The regulations and policies accessible through this section include, but are not limited to, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Egg Safety Rule, the Egg Products Inspection Act, General Guidance on Fresh Table Egg Shelf Life, and AMS Regulations Regarding the Grading of Shell Eggs.

The Export Certification Requirements section of the library provides export certification requirements for each of the listed countries. Examples of the requirements found in this section include product eligibility, packaging and packing, documentation, grade, handling and storage, and other requirements that must be met in order for a shipment to be certified.

The Export Related Questions and Answers section contains frequently asked questions dealing with policies, procedures, programs, and other matters related to the export of eggs. The Trade Assistance section provides direct links to USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service and egg industry organizations that provide trade assistance.
