The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) held a public hearing on proposed amendments to the federal marketing order for California walnuts. The hearing took place on April 20-21, 2020, as an audio-video conference to enable individuals to participate remotely. The hearing was initially scheduled as an in-person event for March 16-17, 2020, in Sacramento, California, but was postponed to ensure the availability of adequate resources.
The hearing allowed USDA to gather evidence on the California Walnut Board’s (Board) recommendation to amend the marketing order to add authority for the Board to provide credit for market promotion expenses paid by handlers against their annual assessments.
Individuals interested in testifying and presenting evidence to the presiding judge could do so by contacting USDA before the end of the hearing. USDA has made the exhibits available below and will post a full hearing transcript to this webpage when it is available.
