Order Authority and Regulations
The marketing order authorizes research and promotion programs and volume control regulations for spearmint oil produced in the far West. The order went into effect in 1980 and was last amended under formal rulemaking on June 26, 1996. View the full regulation.

Research and Promotion: The marketing order authorizes and has active production research, as well as marketing research and development projects. Paid advertising is not authorized.

Volume Control: The marketing order authorizes volume control measures to regulate the marketing of spearmint oil through annual sales allotments. Spearmint oil produced in excess of a grower’s allotment is placed into a reserve pool and used later to fill production deficiencies and unexpected demand.
Committee Structure
The Far West Spearmint Oil Administrative Committee is comprised of eight members, including one public member. Each has one alternate. Producer members are allocated by district. Committee members serve 2-year terms beginning January 1. One-half of the members are selected annually. Producer and handler members are nominated at district producer meetings.
