Catawba Nation’s Natural Resources Division will enter into a Local Food Purchase Agreement to provide produce, meat, dairy, and other minimally processed items to citizens of Catawba Nation and their households. At least 50% of these purchases will come from socially disadvantaged producers in our region and at least 10% of the purchases will be of culturally relevant foods such as corn, beans, squash, and bison. By the end of the two-year agreement Catawba Nation’s Natural Resource Division will have distributed $1,591,700 worth of purchased food to the Catawba community in York County, South Carolina through its free farmers market and deliveries for the homebound. This program will not only supplement the grocery budgets of Catawba citizens but also connect socially disadvantaged producers with the Catawba market.
