The Nevada Department of Agriculture intends to utilize the funds provided through the LFS grant in the form of subgrant awards to school nutrition programs in NV. Nevada has 62 school food authorities that operate the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) who are eligible to receive funding through the LFS grant. Through subgrants awards, school nutrition programs will be able to purchase foods from farmers and producers in Nevada and qualifying areas in California and surrounding states, as needed. The LFS cooperative agreement will benefit local/regional producers by providing an additional $1,666,705 in purchasing power and it will provide economic opportunity for small businesses and the socially disadvantaged farmers who will benefit from building relationships with the school nutrition programs in Nevada that will hopefully continue beyond the LFS grant period.
