The Spirit Lake Tribe is applying for an extension to continue with the Local Foods Cooperative Agreement. Plus, to continue to procure and distribute domestic and traditional foods to the Spirit Lake Tribe FDPIR, CSFP and Sr. Services Elderly Program, which is an underserved and impoverished community located in a designated Promise Zone. 

The community of Sitka is located on Baranof Island in the region of Alaska, commonly referred to simply as "Southeast." There are no roads connecting Sitka to other communities--access to Sitka is by air or water only. Sitka's Federally Recognized Tribal government, Sitka Tribe of Alaska, has an enrollment of over 4500 tribal citizens, many of whom still live in Sitka, which has a population of over 8,000. The population of Sitka stretches along a fifteen-mile road system and has a cost of living 37.5% higher than the U.S. average.

The Shinnecock Environmental Department oversees a Food Sovereignty program on behalf of the Shinnecock Indian Nation. This program strives to secure sustainable food resources that are culturally appropriate and accessible to all tribal members.

The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians are requesting LFPA Plus funding to expand territory and service from the original round of LFPA funding. This additional funding will allow the purchase of locally grown, unprocessed, and/or minimally processed food to disadvantaged families and individuals in El Dorado, Sacramento, Yolo, Placer, Alpine and Amador Counties. The Food Bank of El Dorado County will remain the community-based organization which partners with the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians to procure, warehouse, and distribute all products purchased by the program.

Salamatof Tribe Local Food Purchase Program (STLFPP) will promote access to local food and strengthen supply chain resilience in an area where many tribal members and other Alaska Natives struggle with food security. The Kenai Peninsula and most of the State of Alaska are dependent on a handful of routes to receive commodities, including food. This program will also strengthen resilience as it relates to supply chains and emergency events.

The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, Agriculture Department seeks funding to provide locally sourced traditional foods for distribution to school aged children and elders living in their homes to provide relief for rising food costs. The project seeks to provide access to new market opportunities for local producers by introducing new distribution methods to product end users.

The Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska (QTU), a federally recognized Sovereign Nation located in Alaska’s Aleutian West Census Area in Unalaska, will support Food Sovereignty through the “Unalaska Food Bank Aleutian Pribilof Islands Food Security Initiative” by addressing food insecurity for more 350 socially disadvantaged households (1400+ individuals) in areas that represent Unangan populations who reside in areas of high cost of living indexes, with the most challenging food security issues, and address Alaskan Tribes’ unique challenge of serving displaced members.

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe’s Food Distribution program’s mission is to provide food for the members of our three communities on the reservation, including Wadsworth, Nixon, and Sutcliffe, and neighboring off-reservation communities. If funded by the LFPA Plus program, the grant activities will include procuring, shipping, and delivery of local fresh and frozen food and produce in the region to our Food Distribution warehouse.

The Local Food Assistance Program Plus will allow the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska to purchase unprocessed or minimally processed food for Ponca Tribal members and those receiving services from departments within the Ponca Tribe. The Tribe expects to provide food distribution, on at least a monthly basis, to households residing within the Service Delivery Area. The food will be supplied through a number of local producers and providers, to include the Niobrara Market, a subsidiary of OSNI Ponca, LLC.

The only federally recognized Tribe in Alabama, the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, requests $864,186 for the Tribal Food Security Program to expand upon the Tribe’s successful Community Garden, Farmers’ Market, and Food Distribution programs. At least twice each month, the Tribe will host a community distribution of free fresh and minimally processed food to Indian and non-Indian people. Foods will be purchased with grant funds under simple grow agreements with socially disadvantaged and other farmers/producers within a 400-mile radius of the Tribe’s reservation in Atmore, AL.
